Army adds funding for 16 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters

The U.S. Army has added $234.5 million in undefinitized contract funding for an initial 16 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters from Sikorsky, according to reporting confirmed by Army and company officials. The action raises the contract’s reported value to about $356 million.

The agreement allows Sikorsky to continue work while the parties negotiate final terms. Breaking Defense reported that the initial aircraft are scheduled for delivery in fiscal year 2028, after Sikorsky’s current multiyear Black Hawk production arrangement is due to conclude at the end of calendar year 2027.

Production is expected at Sikorsky’s Stratford, Connecticut, facility. Sikorsky officials told Breaking Defense that the company has begun ordering long-lead hardware and conducting subassembly work to avoid an interruption in production. Company officials also described the initial 16 helicopters as the opening quantity under a possible broader arrangement, but no larger Army purchase has been confirmed.

Why it matters

The funding provides a near-term bridge for the Army’s enduring utility-helicopter fleet and for the Black Hawk industrial base. Because the action is undefinitized, its final value and scope remain subject to negotiation; the confirmed procurement at this stage is the initial 16 UH-60M aircraft.
